On 12 June 2025 the National Assembly passed Resolution 202, and with it Trà Vinh and Bến Tre were folded into an enlarged Vĩnh Long province - 6,296 square kilometres, some 4.26 million people, its capital now the ward of Long Châu. Trà Vinh had existed as a distinct province since May 1992, occupying 2,390.77 square kilometres and holding around 1.29 million residents. But the 2025 dissolution was not an unusual event in this particular corner of the delta. It was merely the latest in a two-hundred-year sequence of decisions, taken in distant capitals, that this land needed a different name.]]></description>
